The New Black Panther Party 20 Years of Struggle
December 4th-6th was one not to miss. This was was the historic summit
marking 20 years of struggle for the hearts and minds of our people by the
New Black Panther Party throughout the burning hells of North America and
for Africans worldwide.
The theme in the air was about "working out differences" first within our
families, Self and the Total Black Community at large.
The Energy was electric with the highly anticipated reunion with allegedly
warring and quarreling factions of the Original Black Panther Party and
the New Black Panther Party.
The split as portrayed by mainstream media has been shown as
irreconcilable,
but the love shown and demonstrated by the members of the New Black
Panther Party for the members of the Original Black Panther Party during the
3 day event was something quite the contrary.
The New Black Panther Party has been the subject of debate on the
legitimacy of "rightful heirs" to the Legacy of the Original Black Panther Party
for Self Defense.
Attorney Malik Zulu Shabazz, National Chairman of the New Black Panther
Party put that debate to rest during his keynote address saying "How is it
now that we are in error, could it be that our critics have been mistaken"
"Could we be the reformers under our father Khallid Abdul Muhammad?"
The New Black Panther Party has been the subject of much criticism in the
media over 20 years being called anti-Semitic, bigoted and racist, with
examples of The New Black Panther Party's work during the Disaster of
Hurricane Katrina going totally ignored by the mainstream media.
Republicans in Congress have been pressuring U.S. Attorney General Eric
Holder to re-open and re-file charges against the New Black Panther Party and
Attorney Malik Zulu Shabazz when clearly at no time has it been suggested
or otherwise implied directly or indirectly for any member of the New
Black Panther Party to Violate the Laws, Rules or Regulations of the laws of
any state in the United States of America.
Coming off of the heels of our Black
Power Convention May 22-24 in Atlanta, Georgia and in advance of the Black Power Summit,
National Geographic began airing a slanderous national TV documentary on the
New Black Panther Party accusing the New Black Panther Party of a number of
things, including racism and distorting the legacy of the Black Panther
Party of the 1960's. The positive acts of the NBPP went largely unrecognized.
Our consistent food and clothing drives, political education classes,
self-defense training, marches, rallies and acts of service to the needy were
totally ignored by our enemies in the mainstream media as well as party
opposition within the ADL and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Having our roots in the city of Dallas, Texas the New Black Panther Party
went home to it's founding state to remember those who sacrificed so much
to keep the legacy of the Black Panther Party alive and well in the 21st
century. Hosted by Sister Crystal Muhammad who serves as Regional
Representative for the Southern Region and the members of the Dallas,TX chapter of the
New Black Panther Party the stage was set for one of most historical
events in recent Panther history.
Crystal Muhammad taught, organized, discipline and served all while being
under the pressure of making sure things 'go right'. Being seen in every
workshop, in the halls and outside one thing was for sure Sister Crystal
and the members of the Dallas Chapter had there hands full as chapters from
as far away as New York, Trenton, New Jersey, Louisville, Kentucky, Atlanta,
Georgia and Virginia were all in the house and many more.
Original founding member David Foreman took a large Panther caravan
throughout the city of Dallas,TX to historically important Places, buildings and
areas such as the first meeting place of the New Black Panther Party and
the street where the founding party members did the first "Thug and Drug"
Patrols.
According to David Foreman, who serves as National Minister of Defense
for the New Black Panther Party, "The thug and drug patrols began because
the children couldn't play outside all the community used to see outside were
the drug dealers" The Party began doing armed patrols securing the
territories of the Black Neighborhoods that were infested with U.S. introduced
crack cocaine , heroin and other forms of chemical and biological warfare
aimed at our people. From the stand that brothers Aaron Michaels and Captain
David Foreman took in the early 1990's in starting the NBPP; to the
Revolutionary leadership that the Honorable Dr. Khallid Abdul Muhammad displayed
as he pushed the NBPP to the national scene; to the many unnamed servants,
soldiers, comrades and warriors who currently make up the rank and file of
the NBPP the idea of self-determination the Original Black Panther Party
of the 1960's took firm root here in the hells of North America.
Considered one of the last ones still standing strong, dedicated to Black
Power, Pan-Afrikanism and Black Nationalism; the NBPP has answered the
call numerous times to righteously defend the rights of Black People in
general and ensure that the saturated white racist histories and theologies of the
educational system do not go unchecked in the hearts and minds of
Black/African people in the United States or the World over.
As we celebrate 20 years of movement we look ahead to many more years of
struggle until we achieve the ultimate goal of the liberation and
salvation of the Black Nation.
